I know, I know, I might be a little too optimistic after watching Spain winning the Football World Championship last night.

However, I’d like to point out the importance of team work over sparking individual performers.

I don’t know much about football, not even about the Spanish football players, so I was very surprised a couple of weeks ago in Brussels when a friend of mine told me that the Spanish reserves were better than most first liners in other teams.

Then I learned that some of these reserves were in fact top players in some European teams. Yet, none of them complaint or argued about not being starters in the Spanish national team. They all shared their victories, and they all suffered their problems, without blaming each other for their mistakes.

These days, it is quite common to dedicate some valuable time at top Business schools to study the world of sports, trying to figure out what we can learn from this highly competitive and extremely challenging environment.

At SolidQ, we are proud of having some of the most talented professionals in the Microsoft Data Platform. We are also proud of our achievements in some of the most challenging projects that involve Microsoft technologies in the world.

However, we would not be able to achieve anything without proper team work, without sharing knowledge among our people, without creating the environment where everybody is part of a non-stop knowledge flow that nourishes and improves each person’s chances of succeeding at any particular project.

In fact, an important component of our success relies on a deliberate effort of working together as a team, having our first top players engaging everybody with them, whether they play as starters or as reserves. Together we enjoy the achievements of our entire company, and do our best to support those who might need help at any given time, without thinking first what’s there to improve their personal careers.

This is not altruism, and it is certainly not communism. It is pure and effective team work that is beating the recession, making of this last half of the year our best half of the year ever, in terms of sales and profitability, creating employment and wealth while other companies are struggling to survive, and are laying employees off.

Yes, we will continuously search for top talent to be part of SolidQ. Still, we want to make sure that this top talent is able to be part of this great team, participating of the best knowledge flow that any company can provide these days.

And, BTW, Congratulations Spain for the Football World Championship!!
